Getting the Best from PLA+


PLA+ produces the cleanest surfaces of any FDM material, and a little design awareness makes models truly presentation-grade. Orient the best face up or outward: top and side walls print glassy, while overhangs carry faint support witnesses. Tell us which faces matter and we will orient for them.

Fine text and logos reproduce beautifully when raised or recessed at least 0.4 mm wide and 0.3 mm deep. For architectural models, walls down to 0.8 mm print reliably at scale, letting you keep window reveals and facade details sharp.

PLA+ is also the smart first step in a bigger journey: validate the shape cheaply in PLA+, then move the same file to PETG or ABS for functional testing. Many customers iterate two or three PLA+ rounds before a single functional print, saving money at every step.

What is PLA+ and how is it different from PLA?

PLA+ is an enhanced PLA with improved toughness and layer adhesion while keeping the easy printing, fine detail and wide colour range PLA is known for.

Is PLA strong enough for functional parts?

PLA+ is rigid and accurate but has low heat resistance and less toughness than PETG or ABS, so it is best for visual and light-duty parts. We will recommend a tougher material for functional loads.

Why choose PLA for prototypes?

It is the cheapest, fastest and most detailed option, making it ideal for early concept and appearance models before moving to functional materials.

What colours are available in PLA?

PLA+ offers the widest colour range of any material, including specialty and matte finishes. Tell us your preference when you order.

How fine can PLA+ detail get?

Raised or recessed features from about 0.4 mm reproduce crisply, and fine layers keep curved surfaces smooth. It is the best FDM choice for detailed display work.

Can you paint PLA+ models?
